Badlands - Carl Orffs opening 'Gassenhauser'
perfectly captures the feeling of the future to come and the buzz of the unknown when you are too young to know otherwise- good or bad - to come that you don't yet know. the coming times more on top than you ever dreamed but that you love materialising in front of you, and shit yourself from
sinister, dramatic, joyous,, dark.

That might be said, but it's not better than the Ronettes 'Be my baby'.

Depends.
if its a gangster film set in the 60's, agreed.
If its set in dustbowl America about a bonnie and clyde style massacre in the wide open spaces of a land of not much, that's a different proposition sir and the timeless tinkle of orffs schulwerk perfectly sums up the fucked up chaos of wide open spaces and murder

the opening to trainspotting was alright as I recall
cant remember the tune but it was noisy visuals of getting fucked up and roaring off like the spatchcock chicken of the proverb
it was an accomapaniment to the sights of taking medical ointments not intended to combat ill but instead designed to promote the pursuit of wankered plain of cane and abell and I seem to recall it being quite apt iin that regard

I agree, the trainspotting opening sequence was great and 'lust for life' a perfect choice

There is that.
I nominated the Ronettes due to the following...
I was walking to work, with my MP3/iPod thing, multi song thing going along in my ears, and despite all my 'favourite' bands of all time doing their stuff, SUCH WAS MY MOOD, that I wasn't actually listening to it.
Then that came on and I was all........fucking hell, blimey.
It reminded me of the film, Won Ton Ton, the dog who said Hollywood.
Before I placed it properly at the feet of Mean Streets.

Mile End (Pulp) is also better than 'good' on the Trainspotting sound track.

And on a similar note I'd add Down Town, three quarters into Twin Town, although that obviously wasn't an opening track, what with it being nearer the end of the film.
But it captured 'stuff' quite well IMHO.

In that case i'd like to add Orbitals 'Belfast / Wasted' from some point in Human Traffic.
Majestic, and perfectly captures the wobbly step off into the end of night come down unknown...

not an opening song but one i'll always put up there with the best is Scorsese's use of 'Atlantis' by Donovan during the "go get your shoe shine box" in Goodfellas

That is not EOT, I ended it when I started it, it's the Ronettes.
(I might've spelt them wrong, but that's by the by)
